Another way you could start your painting career is to complete a course in painting and decorating at college. A course in the subject will give you the skills and knowledge you need when you go into a job. You may not have the experience that you would gain from an apprenticeship however you will have the qualifications which will let an employer know that you have the knowledge and skills necessary for the job.

There is always room for improvement in your painting and decorating career, you may start off in a low position however you can progress with experience. You may find yourself after some time doing more challenging work and being left alone to do it. You could progress to a supervisory role where you are in charge of a small team, this will bring higher pay and more responsibility to the job. After this you could even become a manager of a team or possibly start up your own business.
